note:hi all, sorry for being such an awful blogger lately. here, as i promised, the review for dorian gray. this movie arrived way too late here in indonesia, i had to wait for 7 months to see it! well at least, i had a chance to see this anyway. the two leading men are my favorite actors.

the movie is an adaptation of oscar wilde's famous novel "the picture of dorian gray", about a previously young, innocent man (ben barnes) that got corrupted by the views of lord henry wotton (colin firth). he taught young dorian to care the most about the beauty and the charms of youth, which he took seriously in the end that he made a pact with devil to keep him young, just like the first time he got painted by the very talented basil hallward (ben chaplin).

the result of the pact was that every damage that gray inflicted on people would be returned as wounds in the painting, so, it was like the painting was responsible for all of the damages that should be the actual gray's, so that he could stay young and beautiful forever. the movie reached its peak as gray fell for lord henry wotton's daughter, emily wotton (rebecca hall), and how scared he was while james vane (johnny haris) hunted him down for being responsible for his sister's death because he broke her heart.

i couldn't tell more of them, unless the review will be a spoiler itself! anyway, i think this movie is a good drama to watch, although i don't know how innacurate this one is compared to the real novel, since i haven't read it. despite some said that this is the hollywood-ized version of the novel, and that ben barnes was not a good cast as dorian gray, because the real gray should be blonde with blue eyes (i don't know--is it true? :)), some had also said that this movie is stunning in its own way. which, in a way, i agree.

as for me, colin firth's such a blessing in this movie. he tapped really well into that antagonist character of his, and helped ben barnes a lot in making his role seemed more convincing than it should be (as much as i hate to say it, but barnes' acting was a bit weak here, compared to him as prince caspian). i really like this movie, though, and as usual,
i'd love to read your thoughts down there in the comment box :) also, if anyone had read the novel, could you please kindly share with me? :) i'd really be thankful!
p.s. just watched robin hood yesterday, too. anybody else thinks that the movie is really cool? i love the casts, too. cate is a goddess. russell crowe did an excellent job, too, i loved how he acted with such grace!!
